Discrimination Against Bikers In Sneads Ferry, North Carolina

Incident #1

From: Neil Manson, Armed Forces M/C

RE: Southern Comfort Gentlemen's Club

Date: 09 April 2001

115 Sugar Lane

Sneads Ferry, NC 28460

Unknown: Establishment Security Staff

On 09 April 2001, at approximately 23:30 hours (11:30 PM) I entered the Southern Comfort Gentleman's Club with another member of the Armed Forces M/C, Ronald Bradbury. It is important to note that, after parking our bikes outside, we looked thoroughly for any indications that Colors were prohibited prior to entering the establishment. None were noted. We talked and joked with the staff at the register, paid our $10. entrance fee and proceeded to the next set of entry doors.

At that time an unidentified African-American male notified us that we were not permitted to enter the facility with our colors on. After I questioned him, he asked me to please turn around so he could inspect my "colors". I complied with his request and he repeated his statement, "You cannot come in here, with Colors on."

We then requested a refund of our entrance fee of $10. At that point, a person who appeared to be the club manager came out and opened the register. The woman behind the register then returned our entry fees. After returning to our bikes, I secured a "Discrimination is Illegal" card prepared by our AIM attorney and returned with it to the club. I gave the card to the security guy, and asked him to give it to the club manager.

I am the NC President of the Armed Forces of America M/C and an active duty Marine, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. I have served my country for more than 10 years. Mr. Bradbury is one of the original Charter members of the Armed Forces M/C in North Carolina and an honorably discharged Marine Corps Veteran.

I am hopeful that we will be able to succesfully resolve this issue in the same manner we were able to resolve the issue at the Orleans House. Since our meeting with the management of the Orleans House we have never been denied entrance and no unpleasant incidents have occurred.
