Discrimination Against Bikers In Matthews, North Carolina

Incident #1

From: Keith Richards, Riders In Recovery M/C

RE: Vinnie's Grill and Raw Bar

Date: 03 September 2005

142 E. John Street

Matthews, NC 28105

Raimondo Cortelli: Manager

At 10:30 on 03 September 2005, three members of the Riders In Recovery M/C, Greg Weaver, Mike Morris, and I entered Vinnies Grill and Raw Oyster Bar on East John Street in Matthews, NC. After we ordered sodas, a bouncer asked us to remove our colors. We asked why? His response was, "My manager wants them removed."

I asked to speak with the manager. When he arrived, he pointed to a sign over the door that read, "No Colors". I explained to him that we have been served many times wearing our colors alone and in groups. He did not seem interested in hearing that. I asked him for his card and we left the building.

A Matthews City Police Officer was guarding the door. When I pointed out the sign to the other members, the officer said, "I saw you when you came in, but I wasn't going to say anything."

What is most difficult to understand is... in the recent past, as many as 12-15 RIR M/C members have been served there without any problems or issues. Can we get some clarification on their policy? I'd be interested in knowing...

1. Is this any and all patches?

2. All the time?

3. All Vinnie's locations?

4. Why this time and never before?

Rest assured, it will not happen again. If they don't want us there, we certainly aren't going to increase their profit margin. I think we should get a refund for the sodas and Red Bull we ordered.
